Recording
The main multitrack systems are the SSL Soundscape and Avid Pro Tools DAW’s with 1 x SSL MX4 DSP accelerator card, and 2 x SSL Alpha Link AX 96kHz/24Bit converters with 48 analogue Inputs and Outputs (32 at 96kHz/24bit). 1 UAD2 Quad DSP plug-ins card complements the system.
For midi recording/sequencing we have a RME based system with RME ADI-8 DS 96kHz/24Bit converters. Sonar 8.5 is the main sequencer we use for midi programming and software synths and is synchronised directly to the Soundscape and Pro Tools systems.
These systems are extremely powerful and stable, allowing all possibilities of editing, looping, pitch correction, sample replacement and quantization.
As a rule, we backup session files at the end of each session, ensuring complete safety of our clients’ work. All clients files are stored on our system and back up systems for at least a month after the session is completed. These can be transferred to an external hard drive, pen drive or optical media (CD/DVD/Blu-ray) and stored in the studio archive or transferred to the client upon request. Please enquire for pricing. If the files are no longer required, they will be deleted after this time.
Mixing
Mixing is carried out via a combination of digital and analogue equipment. The SSL Soundscape system is fully automated, with total recall of all parameters. The audio then passes through the analogue outboard and Neve mixing consoles, adding warmth and a great sonic character to the sound.
Monitoring
The studio monitors are Dynaudio Acoustic M2’s and BM15’s. Both very accurate and detailed sets of speakers that do not “flatter” the music, so what you hear is what you get.
Outboard
A wide range of outboard equipment brings character and vitality to the recordings. High-end valve equalisers, compressors, limiters and effects. Including equipment from Tube-Tech, MSE Audio, Purple Audio, Millennia, Calrec, Focusrite, Neve, Amek and others.
The use of high quality outboard gives our recordings a feeling of “being there”, a larger than life sound. Effects units from Eventide, Lexicon, TC Electronic, and Kurzweil bring a grand sense of space and size to the mix.
What Is A Recording Studio?
“A recording studio is a facility for sound recording and mixing. Ideally both the recording and monitoring spaces are specially designed by an acoustician to achieve optimum acoustic properties (acoustic isolation or diffusion or absorption of reflected sound that could otherwise interfere with the sound heard by the listener).” Wikipedia
